The rebirth of old Imari porcelain

Shards of old Japanese Imari porcelain discovered in Loosdorf Castle in Lower Austria were scientifically examined over several years and the objects partially reconstructed. The result was on display at the Okura Museum of Art (Tokyo) from November 3, 2020 to March 21, 2021 and can now be seen at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum until June 13, 2021.
In 2018, a Japanese team of art historians and restorers came to Loosdorf Castle for the first time, and research revealed that the collection was begun between 1670 and 1750 and expanded during the 1873 World’s Fair in Vienna. The restoration could be realized under the guidance of the Japanese art historian Prof. Masaaki Arakawa.
On October 24, 2020, an online conversation took place with the project manager Machiko Hoshina and the owner of the castle Verena Piatti.
