From April 24 to June 26, 2021, Quartz Studio in Turin will host Gernot Wieland’s exhibition, which consists of a video installation specially planned for the space of his award-winning film Ink in Milk. 2018.
“Ink in Milk” is an outstanding work that works in the truest sense of the word: Guido Wieland is a visual artist. The mixing of different substances is a central motif of his painting. In twelve minutes, director Gernot Wieland unfolded an entire life: In his own sketches, metaphor-rich image sequences, drawings and sculptures, he resurrects the disturbing world of a childhood, tells of the dark in the light, of the illness of schizophrenia, which is the creative principle here, splitting up experienced realities and putting them back together again in a completely new way. “Ink in Milk” is a narrative whose dramaturgy is convincing from the first to the last minute – and inspires us to find answers to the question of how to escape the Kafkaesque thorn bush, the universal hopelessness. Wieland succeeds in making the hidden ruins of the psyche visible without judging their madness.
