From December 10 (International Human Rights Day) to December 18, 2020, the Sofia DocuMENTAL film festival will present 15 documentaries from 14 countries focusing on human rights. Due to the covid 19 pandemic, this first edition of the festival will take place exclusively online. The films are available at www.documental.bg.
Among the films shown are two Austrian films: the Sundance Film Festival winner “Epicentro” by Hubert Sauper and the film “Sea of Shadows” by Richard Ladkani, a deeply moving and thought-provoking film (the theme is saving biodiversity, the environment and climate change). The presentation of the film “Sea of Shadows” will be complemented by an online discussion with the producer Richard Ladkani and Milena Filcheva from Disney/National Geographic Bulgaria. National Geographic Bulgaria was also able to become a media partner of the festival thanks to the inclusion of this Austrian film.
The organizer of the festival is the Balkan Documentary Center – Sofia, in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and some embassies and cultural institutes in Sofia.
