The ballet co-production “Madama Butterfly” of the Europaballett St. Pölten with the Serbian National Theater Novi Sad celebrated its premiere on May 14 and 18 in the sold-out Great Hall in Novi Sad.
The first ballet version in Central Europe of the drama about Cio-Cio San, with a choreography and music selection by Peter Breuer and costumes by the Japanese design icon Yumiko Takeshima represented the highlight of the preliminary program for the European Capital of Culture 2022 and impressively showed that the cooperation between the two ensembles could be continued smoothly and at an artistically first-class level despite the pandemic. The Austrian audience can look forward to the premiere in St. Pölten in September.
The project was supported by the Province of Lower Austria, the City of St. Pölten, Novi Sad Capital of Culture 2022, the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and EU-Japan Fest.
