Eerie animal noises, the reinterpretation of the art canon, or the youthful memories of a woman suffering from dementia: Taking the collective stay-at-home 2020/2021 as its point of departure, the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin will be showing “Counterworlds and Substitute Realities,” a program of ten animated films, on February 15. It brings together different strategies for discovering the world anew or new worlds, for bringing them to life – or for escaping from them altogether.
The animated shorts from five decades are accompanied by a pre-recorded conversation with two of the filmmakers. Gudrun Krebitz (“Achill”) and Claudia Larcher (“Empty Rooms”) talk with Waltraud Grausgruber, director of the “Tricky Women/Tricky Realities” festival, about their approaches and techniques. The conversation will be moderated by program curator Marie Ketzscher.
This online event is part of the program “f wie frei denken. – Austrian (Co)productions by Female Filmmakers in Focus.” Until April 2021, the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin is showing documentary, staged and animated productions that focus on Austrian female filmmakers from different generations.
