The Austrian Cultural Forum/OSTA Beijing is hosting an exhibition by the multifaceted Austrian artist Ekaterina Kormilitsyna (1994) in Beijing from May 8-17, 2021. The expressive texts and images will be displayed at Aotu Space in BeiXinQiao, which hosts numerous creative events.
“Database Monsters” brings essay texts into physical space and encourages reflection on absurd notions of Internet models. A text projected on the wall invites the audience to physically enter the essay world. The text leaves the white pages of the book and begins to create its own worlds. A world shaped by a research question, “What does the Internet actually look like?”
By presenting the most absurd and fictional notions of planetary Internet structures as fantastic beasts, traditional vocabulary is challenged.
This is complemented by a curated series of paintings in which database monsters erupt from the walls, hoping to get the audience to consider the physicality of the Internet around them as living, borderline mythical creatures.
