Walter Vopava / Cultural Forum Bern

Solo exhibition in Geneva

The Geneva gallery Mezzanin dedicates this solo exhibition to the Austrian painter Walter Vopava, who is considered one of the most important representatives of New Abstraction in Austria. Born in Vienna in 1948, the artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Professor Maximilian Melcher and initially found his approach to painting through nature studies before dedicating himself to pure abstraction from the late 1980s. In his paintings, the color black forms one of the great constants. It is always a matter of dealing with light, color and space. Vopava received the City of Vienna Prize for Visual Arts in 1999 and the Austrian Art Prize for Visual Arts in 2011. Today the artist lives and works in Vienna and Berlin. Gallery Mezzanin shows the works of the well-known painter until May 22, 2021.
