Artistic research about the Austrian dancer Fanny Elßler

What does the Spanish solo dance Cachucha have to do with Viennese ballet? Fanny Elßler, Viennese ballerina of the 19th century, once developed a preference for this dance and made it internationally known. That’s why KF Madrid is presenting a three-part video series on its social media channels about the Anton Bruckner University Linz research project, where Dolma Jover (dancer), Mihaela Kavdanska (media artist) and Emilio Manzano (actor) are working on an interdisciplinary piece around Fanny Elßler and her passion for Cachucha.

The project, which will have its world premiere in Vienna in May and will also be presented in Spain, uses dance and visuals as well as poetic texts to take us through the evolution of the dance style from its Andalusian-Arabic origins (the word Cachucha comes from ق صو صة – which means “stories”), to a new dance genre that emerged from it – Escuela Bolera, Spanish classical ballet.
