„Where are we now? Digital – Real 2021”

In 2021, China and Austria will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. To mark this occasion, KF Beijing focused on the cooperation between Chinese and Austrian artists and developed the project platform “Where are we now? Digital-Real 2021”, on which current topics are reflected and presented in an interdisciplinary way. The focus is on making current challenges and innovative visions of the future visible.
The exhibition “Being Strangers Together”, which will be shown from March 20-28, 2021 in the frei_raum Q21 in Vienna’s Museumsquartier, is the result of this project. Curated by Alexandra Grimmer and Lucas Gehrmann, it features the works of Karin Pliem (Vienna), He Wei (Beijing) and Chen Shuo (Chengdu), which express a momentary sense of incomprehension or alienation towards the concept of cultural belonging. The works are intended to contribute to better mutual understanding and to honor art as a medium of communication that can be understood internationally.
