Valerie Fritsch „Herzklappen von Johnson & Johnson“ / Cultural Forum Berlin

The event on 09 March 2021 has to be cancelled due to personal reasons of the author. The Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin will try to find an alternative date in the near future.

Alma and Friedrich have a child who cannot feel pain. Constantly worried about her boy, it is above all Alma who checks him incessantly for physical integrity. Every evening she feels the child to make sure that no injury is overlooked. And there is nothing the young mother fears more than the invisible injury of an organ that remains without a sign. Alma finds support in her grandmother, who now, very old and bedridden, and after a lifetime of silence, begins to tell her story: of growing up in the war, of flight, hunger and her grandfather’s imprisonment. With the child on her lap, who knows no pain, Alma sits at the bedside of the seriously ill, who wants nothing more than to overcome her pain. And in the grandmother’s stories she finds an explanation for those seemingly groundless feelings of guilt, powerlessness and forlornness that accompany her throughout her life.

The Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, together with the Literaturhaus Berlin, invites you to this reading and conversation in a free live stream on 09 March 2021 at 19:00. Under “Current Tips” in the Media Library of the Cultural Forum, it will still be available a month later.
