Organized virtually due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Austrian-Polish dialogue exhibition “Micro Stories” relates sound works/radio plays by Karolina Szulejewska (PL) with video works and films by Marlies Pöschl (AT). What the artists have in common is their in-depth look at society, the changes taking place in it and the emotions involved.
Marlies Pöschl presents the film “Cinema Cristal”, which was shot in Tehran and is dedicated to Laleh Zar Street, where there were once cinemas that were closed in the course of the Iranian revolution. The film thus draws a collective portrait of the residents while documenting political and social changes. “U8,” the latest work by Karolina Szulejewska, was shot in the Berlin subway.
The recorded conversations of the passengers represent a soundscape. Through a subway line and its passengers – the heroes of the radio play – we can get to know the city and its transformation processes. The radio play was created during the refugee crisis in 2015 and documented these events through a micronarrative strategy that tells big events through small stories.
The exhibition is part of the Creative Austrians program, in which Marlies Pöschl is presented as one of the thought leaders for tomorrow’s society.
