On February 4, the exhibition, “Parasitical Symbiosis,” directed by Pille-Riin Jaik and Miriam Esther Meyer (both students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna), will open with additional works by Maria Asamer and Klaus Rabeder at the Hobusepea Gallery of the Estonian Artists’ Association in Tallinn’s Old Town.
The theme of the exhibition fundamentally explores expanded forms of collaboration with regard to artistic works. The works themselves deal with the role of women in classical gallery structures, outdated myths about genius and its possible new forms, as well as the question of how artists with different styles and different cultural backgrounds can collaborate with each other without falling into harmful patterns such as competitive thinking, etc. The exhibition is also about the role of women in the art world.
Pille-Riin Jaik’s and Miriam Esther Mayer’s works are handmade paper flowers and creepers made from archival materials collected during the research process for the exhibition. The works of Maria Asamer and Klaus Rabeder are a part of the installations of Pille-Riin Jaik and M.E. Mayer, i.e. the works are integrated and not exhibited as individual works of the respective artists.
This is the gallery’s first exhibition this year after Lockdown, and only a limited number of people can attend the opening. The exhibition will remain open until February 22.
