On 29th October 2020 the Austrian Cultural Forum New Delhi organized yet another interactive online session in the framework of its “Occasional Lectures”-series. This time the topic was Ferdinand Stoliczka (1838 – 1874), a versatile geologist, paleontologist and biologist, who originated from Moravia, which at the time was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Stoliczka came to the Ladakh on behalf of the Geological Survey of India, where he discovered numerous hitherto undocumented animals and plants. Reptiles, fish and birds were named after him.
Three well-known Indian scholars contributed to the discussions: Dr. Achal Pandya, Head of Conservation of the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, Prof. Dr. R.C Agarwal from the Archaeological Survey of lndia and Prof. Dr. Syed Asif Akhtar Naqvi from the Aligarh Muslim University.
