String&Noise

c) String and Noise

The duo string&noise gives an exclusive concert for the Ottawa Cultural Forum with works by Pierre Jodlowski, Manuel Zwerger, Matthew Shlomowitz, Leo Riegler, Bernd Satzinger and the Vienna-based Canadian Caitlin Smith.
The concert will be available online here from 4 July 2020, 11:00 a.m.

Maiken Beer (cello) and Sophia Goidinger-Koch (violin) founded string&noise in 2015, convinced that contemporary music is exciting and stimulating – even for “untrained ears”. The focus of their work is the intensive examination of the instruments used and the exploration of their sound and noise possibilities.

Since 2017, string&noise has been increasingly concerned with pieces that incorporate other media, such as video and electronics. The musicians also commission composers who work in this direction, including Manuel Zwerger. Manuel Zwerger composed the piece “Shifting Beethoven” for the duo, which will also be performed in time for this year’s Beethoven anniversary.
