For the eighth edition of the sponsorship program “The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM)”, an expert jury again selected young emerging musicians from the genres of classical music, jazz, world music, new music and pop.
Launched in 2002, this support program of the Austrian Foreign Ministry is implemented in cooperation with mica – music austria. For a period of two years, young Austrian musicians and ensembles are selected by a jury of experts to receive support for performances abroad. The Ministry’s worldwide network of Embassies, Cultural Forums and Consulates General play an important role in this endeavour. The goal of NASOM is to present Austrian music as lively, modern and culturally diverse.
The funding program celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022 and has developed into a successful Austrian music brand: This is shown by 330 concerts with NASOM musicians in more than 65 countries in 2021.
